I’m in the landscape and the landscape is in me.
I climbed down into the valley and followed the dried out riverbed upstream.
What yesterday looked like lines from afar, have now become a labyrinthine space and I’m inside it. Vertical walls surround the narrow meandering path. Each bend is sculpted by the force of flowing water.
I take in this space and its inhabitants. Deafening sounds of the cicadas. Smell of pines and foxes. Traces of genet, wild boars, goats and snakes in the dried mud. I’m here and I feel like drawing!
With my walking stick, I make a drawing to navigate this space and make sense of the verticality, the width and the water’s overwhelming transformative force.
I draw in the rock, the sand, the mud. Continuing or braking the lines of the landscape, along and across the waves of the water.
The drawing is monumental in relation to my body (and is exhausting to make!) but in this vastness it’s very tiny, just like me. It merges with the traces of the other critters who traversed these lands.
Soon, when the next rain falls, it will be wiped out.
