Scattered on the mountain – and protrud uping from it – are colored rocks. Shimmering bright red, yellow and orange. Dark purple, ochre, brown, black and white.
I try drawing with them and it works! Some of them shatter and turn into powder, to pigment, while others can be used as crayons.
I brought a roll of drawing paper out here. I now start carrying the paper with me as I walk in the river bed and on the plateau. When I find colored rocks along the way, I stop and draw with them on the paper.
The features of the land imprints the paper. Subtle traces of boars and snakes break up the monochrome color fields. Sharp pebbles in the soft dried mud tear up small holes. My dripping sweat dissolves the pigments, generating patches of increased depth.
